Rana A. Sharif is a doctoral candidate in Gender Studies. Her research examines the relationship between new media technologies including location-based applications and social networking sites to social movements in Palestine. She is interested in how such an examination can offer new ways of exploring everyday acts of resistance and concepts of gender in the context of militarization and occupation. In addition to her academic work, she has been a community organizer in the Palestinian American community in the greater Los Angeles area. Most recently, she served as the Vice President for the Palestinian American Women’s Association of Southern California. Her research interests include: social movements; militarization and occupation; women of color and transnational feminisms; gender in/on MENA; and digitalization and medicalization of the body
